Rossendale pupils win Manchester Airport's junior apprentice competition

Pupils from St Peter’s RC Primary School in Rossendale are celebrating after they won Manchester Airport’s Junior Apprentice competition.

Their team of six students was judged to have created the best marketing campaign, with the theme ‘Safety in the sun’ and saw off competition from primary schools across the North West. The campaign was around ensuring families remember to wear sun cream when on their holidays this summer.

The students will now record a radio advert at Global Radio in Manchester and hear it played on air, their posters will also be displayed across the three terminals at Manchester Airport during the summer season. They will also be treated to a visit from the Circus Sensible Big Top at their school. Finally the poster will be shared with 500,000 followers on the airport’s social media accounts.

Pupils presented to a panel of judges from businesses across the airport campus as well as a judge from Global Radio. The judges’ noted that St Peter’s had clearly worked hard on their campaign and were impressed by the characters they’d created to bring their posters and radio ads to life.

Edgerton Primary School in Knutsford came in second place with Prospect Vale Primary School in Heald Green taking third spot. Both schools will receive a visit from an ice cream van for their hard work.

Wendy Sinfield, Community Relations Manager, said: “This year’s competition was hugely popular with dozens of schools from across the North West entering. The final was really close run with lots of great presentations, but St Peter’s really stood out. We’re looking forward to seeing their winning poster up and around in the terminals.”

The competition is set to return next year. All year five and six pupils are encouraged to get involved, working in teams of six, with one team from each school submitting a design. Class teachers will be asked to shortlist one campaign to represent the school.
