Pupils from Stockport to Sunderland enjoy Manchester Airport's children's book
As Manchester Airport’s 80th birthday year comes to a close, the northern hub has released a video of school children from across the North enjoying its first book.
In September last year, the airport published the book titled ‘Reach for the Sky’. A story about travel, determination and achieving your dreams, the book was aimed at primary school children. To celebrate its birthday and support Read Manchester’s Take 10 initiative, the airport gifted 7,000 copies of the book to schools across the region.
Children from Stockport to Sunderland have been reading the book, and the airport has put together a video showing snippets of the book being read in school.
Schools taking part in the video include Mersey Vale Primary School in Stockport, Grange Community Primary School in Winsford, Oaklands School in Winsford, The Russet School in Northwich, New Silksworth Academy in Sunderland, Sacred Heart Primary School in Baguley, Our Lady of the Rosary RC Primary School in Trafford and Golborne Community Primary School in Warrington.
Wendy Sinfield, Community Relations Manager at Manchester Airport and author of ‘Reach for the Sky’, said:
“It’s been a fantastic year celebrating the airport’s 80th birthday and I’ve really enjoyed seeing so many children reading ‘Reach for the Sky’. It’s really special for us to be able to celebrate the airport’s birthday year with communities across our vast catchment area, and I’m looking forward to seeing even more school children reading our book.”
‘Reach for the Sky’ was published as part of the airport’s 80th birthday celebrations, which also included the release of the hugely poignant “Time Flies” film, created in partnership with Tony Walsh and the planting of 80 oak trees across the region.
Last year Manchester Airport staff engaged with 15,000 pupils across its catchment area as part of its ongoing education programme. Every year the airport works with schools and community groups across the region, with staff contributing more than 7,000 volunteer hours in the local community.
