Manchester Airports Group statement on the passing of Howard Bernstein

All at MAG are saddened to hear of the passing of former Manchester City Council chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein.

Sir Howard was a strong advocate of international connectivity’s importance to the regional economy, recognising the role it plays in attracting global businesses, driving exports and welcoming visitors, students and investors to Manchester.

He supported the growth and development of Manchester Airport, and supported our work to secure direct routes to destinations around the world.

Over the years, he developed many strong professional relationships with MAG colleagues, all of whom will be saddled by today’s news.

Manchester Airports Group Chair Charlie Cornish said:

“Everyone at MAG is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sir Howard Bernstein. Sir Howard was a visionary leader, who had a pivotal role in the development and growth of Manchester Airport - recognising the importance of global connectivity to the economic, social and cultural success of the city. Manchester would not be the city it is today without his leadership and our thoughts are with the friends and family of Sir Howard at this sad time.”
