Manchester Airport records its busiest month yet

·      Almost 3.6m passengers passed through Manchester Airport last month

·      Mallorca was the month’s most popular destination – with Alicante and Antalya also proving popular

·      September sees the start of ‘shoulder season’ – with lots of passengers seeking late season sun

Manchester Airport beat its monthly passenger record as nearly 3.6m people flew into or out of the UK’s global gateway in the North in August.

The figure beats the previous record of almost 3.4m set in August last year. It was driven by people heading on summer holidays to traditional hotspots like Palma and Alicante as well as modern favourites including Antalya, Turkey, and Dubai.

During the month the vast majority of passengers - 93% - waited for less than 10 minutes to get to security with 99% waiting less than 15 minutes.

September is set to be another busy month for the Northern hub with almost 3.5m passengers expected – which could make it the second busiest month in the airport’s history.

This month’s passengers will be taking advantage of deals in what is known in the travel industry as the ‘shoulder season’ – one of the two periods either side of the school summer holidays when prices go down but the weather across the Mediterranean is still good.

“To cap it off with our busiest month on record is fantastic – and the fact we’ve done it while keeping waiting times low is a testament to the hard work of thousands of people doing jobs all over the airport.
