Blog: travel tips week nine

Manchester Airport is gearing itself up for its busiest ever summer as schools break up for the holidays. If you’re travelling through the airport this summer with kids, the airport has a few tips to try, to make your journey as smooth as possible.

Before you leave for the airport, check if you only have hand luggage, or if hold luggage is included with your ticket and then pack accordingly. Planning ahead is the key, make sure you have enough toys, games and snacks to keep kids occupied in the terminal and onboard the aircraft. When you get to the airport and head for security, if you’re travelling with children in pushchairs, you are able to use the priority lane at security to make your journey through even easier.

Try and pack any electrical items and liquids bags near the top of your bag so they’re easy to take out when you reach security. If you’re travelling with a baby you can take enough baby food, baby milk and sterilised water for the journey. Be aware that individual containers of breast milk must hold no more than 2,000ml. Ensure any other drinks you might be bringing through are less than 100ml and fit into your resealable clear bag with other liquids, gels and pastes. Remember water bottles can be filled up for free at all of the bars and restaurants and water fountains are available too. Just make sure to take it through security empty.

Once through security, if the kids are feeling peckish, a number of restaurants offer special menus. In terminal one there is also a small play zone for smaller children to enjoy which is located near Gate 21.

Whichever of the airport’s 210 destinations you are flying to this summer we wish you a happy holiday and great airport experience.
